Elizabath Baldin. From nr Reading, Berkshire, and my first art teacher. I have done several workshop days with Liz, who is also a key member of Woodley & Earley Art Group. Prints of her work are sold via several art outlets including John Lewis, and Dunelm, and local art trails and Open Studio days. Liz also undertakes private commissions for original art. In 2025 I treated myself to a commission of Lochranza, on the Isle of Arran, in memory of my parents. (see below)
Jean Haines. I have a few of her books, then became a member of Jean's Online art school during 2024-25. I loved her style, since it included NO drawing.... ever. Her style is atmospheric, and loose.
Catherine Beale. She presented at our art group. Based in Bath I have now attended 2 weekend workshops with Catherine. Her style is about preserving light by leaving white spaces, and using bold colours.
Youtube artists I follow. Lois Davidson, Karen Rice, Joanne Boon Thomas, Anastasia Mily, Mike Jackson (quirky houses).
I have enjoyed observing many artists paint live at our art group, as well as workshops at Woodley and Earley Art Group. Each offer different approaches to watercolour painting, so often my own art incorporates ideas from several artists.
"View from Afton Cottage, Lochranza"
by Elizabeth Baldin. (my first art tutor)
I commissioned this painting in watercolour and ink. An artistic impression of the view from what was my parents garden, on the Isle of Arran. I provided a few photos, suggested a colour theme, but gave Liz full artistic licence to create this wonderful piece. In memory of my parents.
My interpretation of one of the suggested images in Catherine Beale's book "Capturing Light". She calls her style Gravity Painting, adding paint and loads of water, at an accute angle.
